It’s rare for a music channel to knock gaming goliath PewDiePie off the top of the YouTube charts, and that didn’t happen in April: with 296.6m views, his channel remained the biggest in the world last month according to Tubefilter’s rankings. However, Katy Perry took second spot in the chart, as her Dark Horse and Birthday videos piloted her to 256.2m views in April, adding 510k subscribers to take her total followers on YouTube to 12.2m. Other music channels doing well last month were equally familiar names: dance channel Spinnin’ Records notched up 141m views to take sixth place in the rankings, with Shakira’s 133.4m views putting her in eighth. Vevo accounted for 22 of the 100 top channels on YouTube in April, followed by MCNs Maker Studios (nine), Fullscreen and Machinima (both five).
