Well, this isn’t really digital marketing, in the sense that Aphex Twin merely gave this project his blessing rather than ran it. But it’s an interesting example of crowdfunding in action. Fans teamed up to pledge more than $67k to get digital access to a long-lost Aphex Twin album called ‘Caustic Window’ earlier in the year, sanctioned by the artist and his label. Based on a test pressing, the album has now been distributed to backers digitally, and also uploaded to YouTube for the wider world to hear. That original test pressing is now being sold on eBay, with the current highest bid standing at $10,750. Fan power in action, then. We suspect a few other musical luminaries may be rifling through their dusty archives to see if they can follow suit.
