We raised a collective eyebrow at TV reality-show star Joey Essex fronting his own music compilation recently, but now even that’s been outdone: Selfie The Album comes out on 24 August. The only connection to selfie photos seemingly being lead track ‘#selfie’ by The Chainsmokers. The likes of Avicii, Duke Dumont, Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Disclosure, Ellie Goulding, AlunaGeorge, Haim, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj and Carly Rae Jepsen all feature too. Anyway, the reason we’re writing about it isn’t just to suggest this would be a good time to start building an ark. There’s a neat digital marketing campaign running ahead of the album’s release: a website aggregating people’s selfies (the ones hashtagged #selfiethealbum) and then choosing the “best” 100 to feature on the front cover of the album itself.
