There are no surprises at the top of the latest monthly YouTube chart, with gaming channel PewDiePie’s 351.1m views making it the most popular in the world in June. Shakira held on to second place with 287.9m monthly views – up 39% month-on-month after a storming May – with Pitbull (4th with 203.6m views), Katy Perry (5th with 195m), Enrique Iglesias (7th with 161.8m) and Spinnin’ Records (10th with 147.5m) also cracking the top 10. Oh, and a familiar figure too: Korean rapper PSY has returned to the top 10 thanks to his ‘Hangover’ collaboration with Snoop Dogg, helping his monthly views more than triple to 154.4m. The fact that PSY added 249k new subscribers in June shows the lasting impact that a hit video can have: those new subscribers will now see his new videos in their feeds. Tubefilter and OpenSlate’s chart is a reminder of music’s importance to YouTube: Vevo alone accounts for 24 of the top 100 YouTube channels in June, with musicians taking six of the top 10 slots.
