Universal Music is among a group of strategic investors in the Seaboard Grand, a new type of keyboard where its rubber leys allow players to bend notes much like a guitarist would do. The ROLI has raised $12.8m in Series A funding and other investors include Index Ventures (who have backed SoundCloud and Sonos but famously said they will not invest in music products or services that require music licensing). Probably of more interest is what ROLI has planned for the future, with it saying the Seaboard Grand is merely its first product and it is being tantalisingly vague by suggesting more music hardware and software products are in the pipeline.
