Against a backdrop of moves towards the implementation of anti-piracy measures (see yesterday’s Music Ally Bulletin), the content industries in Australia are collectively launching the Digital Content Guide to promote licensed services across a range of entertainment types. The move is backed by ARIA on the recorded music side as well as the Australian Screen Association, Copyright Agency Ltd, Foxtel and News Corp Australia among others. “The Digital Content Guide can help consumers find the content they want from the many licensed sources available in Australia today,” said Dan Rosen, CEO of ARIA. “These licensed services support the creative industries by ensuring money goes back into those industries and those who invest in them.” As in others markets, the combination of carrot and stick is the smarter way to go but ultimately success here hinges less on the quantity of licensed services but rather on their quality.
