Here’s an interesting stat about personal radio service Pandora’s audience: 25% of its monthly listeners are Hispanic. Billboard reports that the company now has nearly 19m Hispanic listeners, making it one of the most popular online services of any kind – and easily the most popular streaming music service – for that demographic in the US. Billboard provides more details on how Pandora has been courting this audience: 27 stations categorised as “Latin”, 15 as “Mexico” and more as “Puerto Rico”, as well as its focus on its mobile app as a key way to listen. “You’ve got second- and third-generation Hispanics becoming more influential in this country and therefore the proliferation of smartphones and technology really put us in a good position with this consumer,” said Pandora’s executive director for multicultural Mike Reid.
