News of two new product features from Spotify yesterday: one officially announced, and the other being tested for some of the streaming service’s users. The latter is a new tab within Spotify’s Follow section called ‘Tastemakers’, which spotlights users whose playlists have picked up an audience on the platform. “We are always testing new things to our different platforms and to various user groups,” a spokesperson told TechCrunch, declining to give further details. More official is Serendipity, a new website / visualisation that pings pairs of locations on a world map when two people hit ‘play’ on the same track at the same time. It’s the work of artist-in-residence Kyle McDonald (yes, Spotify has an artist-in-residence) – a clever way to remind people of the service’s global scale.
