The Streamy Awards for online video stars are into their fourth year, labeled (perhaps inevitably) as the ‘Oscars of YouTube’ within the industry, although there’s an entire sub-category of awards for Vine stars too. Music gets its own section with several awards, spotlighting some of the most successful artists from the last year. It’s a good primer for anyone wondering what’s happening beyond labels on YouTube. Boyce Avenue, Chester See, Cimorelli, Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix will compete to be named best musical artist; the best cover song category features versions of hits by Katy Perry, Avicii, Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams and Pitbull/Ke$ha; best music video nominees are the Chainsmokers, Chip Chocolate, Miles Fisher, Epic Rap Battles of History and Barenaked Ladies; and best original song includes Superwoman and Humble The Poet, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Pentatonix, Megan Nicole and Chester See. The awards take place this Sunday evening.
