Spotify got all married up with music data company The Echo Nest back in March and just over five months later (the gestation period in digital is obviously a few months shorter – hem hem) they’ve had a new arrival – the bouncing Insights data blog. The role of the blog is to take all the data and analytics both companies are sitting on and present them in fun and interesting ways – not just a massive pie chart full of grey yawns. Eliot Van Buskirk, who set up Evolver.fm, has been named as Spotify’s in-house Data Storyteller (make your own jokes about streaming royalties being fairytales) and the first posting is a lovely little interactive map telling the story of music’s migration from Berlin, London and Paris – showing where new genres were created.
