It’s all about that bass for Meghan Trainor, but also all about those streams in the UK, where her song wasn’t on sale until this week. On streams alone last week, ‘All About That Bass’ charted at number 33 in the Official Charts Company’s singles chart, based on 1.17m streams across Spotify, Deezer, O2 Tracks, Napster and other services. Charting based on streams alone is a mini-landmark in the UK, where the OCC notes that a number of songs have broken the 1m weekly streams barrier in 2014. Now officially released, ‘All About That Bass’ is currently topping the UK iTunes Store chart, so there’s a good chance that streams and downloads will take it much higher in next week’s chart: potentially right to the top. Although given the importance of its music video to its popularity in the UK and elsewhere in the world, we can’t help but wonder how much higher than 33rd it would have been last week if YouTube and Vevo streams were included in the OCC’s chart.
