It’s almost time for Neil Young’s PonoMusic to ship its first physical players and open up its online store. The company announced earlier this month that it would launch the store in the US on 16 October, as Young – now its CEO – gives a keynote speech at the Salesforce Dreamforce conference in San Francisco. The company says it will launch with more than 2m tracks. “We expect the complete catalogs of the big three labels (Warner, Sony, and Universal) to be fully ingested and available on the PonoMusic Store,” explained the company, whose website has a ticker showing its ingestion progress (more than 606,000 tracks at the time of writing). GigaOm has been poking around Pono’s website and desktop app, noting that pricing for albums isn’t available yet, while “Pono may have some work to do to make the app look a little more modern”.
