Is Google really downranking piracy sites in its search results? Music rightsholders have been complaining about broken promises for a couple of years now, but Google’s latest measures appear to be having a real impact. “Earlier this week all search traffic dropped in half,” a spokesperson for filesharing site Isohunt tells TorrentFreak. Its report also examines SEO visibility for several torrent sites, including KickassTorrents and Torrentz, which both appear to have been downranked considerably in recent days. It’s not all good news: TorrentFreak suggests that for some popular searches – “Breaking Bad torrent” for example – high-profile filesharing sites have been kicked down the rankings, but it’s “less popular torrent sites” that are benefiting in some cases rather than legal services.
