With more than 4.2m subscribers, Conor Franta is one of the fresh-faced stars on YouTube, with big clout among his young audience. Now he’s capitalising on that clout with a music album, albeit not one he sings on himself. ‘Connor Franta Presents Crown, Vol. 1’ is a collection of songs “by a few crazy talented artists that deserve more recognition than they get” according to Franta. “These tracks are diamonds in the rough, jewels within the music industry and compiled under one royal compilation… As you listen to this compilation, it’s my hope that you find a few jewels to add to your own crown.” So it’s more akin to reality TV stars putting their name to an album – Joey Essex’s recent dance mix in the UK being one example – with sales of Franta’s first compilation already strong on iTunes.
