Stronger ties between Apple and Live Nation? That’s something to chew on for 2015. Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine was appointed to the board of Live Nation yesterday. “As an entrepreneur, he has combined business inventiveness and marketing prowess with a deep understanding of the music fan to develop and deliver some of the most sought after artist-oriented consumer products and experiences,” said Live Nation boss Michael Rapino in a statement. What happens next – the potential for stars under the umbrella of the Artist Nation management division to strike iTunes exclusives, to cite one possible example – will be interesting. The news came as Iovine gave an interview to GQ talking about how he persuaded Apple to buy Beats. “I know you guys; I know what you’re capable of; I know you get popular culture. I know you have a hole in music right now; let me plug it,” was his pitch. “After Steve died, and with the rise of streaming, I could see they needed something. Beats Music fit.”
