We’ve wondered regularly in the last year or so whether music companies should follow other media firms’ lead in setting up their own startup accelerators. However, one of those schemes appears to have ended messily, as broadcast network Turner shut down its Media Camp accelerator, which had worked with 27 startups over its three years of operation. “As much as we garnered support and had some great wins, we also encountered significant challenges from both internal and external forces,” wrote founder Balaji Gopinath in an email to staff. “While our impact to the media industry and Turner/Time Warner have been significant, in the final analysis, we have not found the clarity and direction that we needed to continue.”
