Google has sold millions of its Chromecast dongles, which help people stream media to their televisions, controlled from their mobile devices. Now it’s launching a related technology called Google Cast for Audio, focused specifically on streaming music and radio. It’ll be built in to speakers from partners including Sony, LG and Denon, with more to follow. “Just like Chromecast, simply tap the cast button in your favorite music or radio app on Android, iOS, or the web, and select a Google Cast Ready speaker to get the party started,” as product manager Tomer Shekel put it in a blog post. “These speakers will work with a growing list of apps including Deezer, Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, NPR One, Pandora, Rdio, TuneIn, and many more.” Note, no Spotify yet – that company has its own Spotify Connect technology providing similar features.
