Crowdfunding service Kickstarter has published its annual “By The Numbers” report of key stats from the last year. In 2014, nearly 22.3k projects were successfully funded, up from 19.9k in 2013, and 18.1k in 2012. Overall, $529m was pledged to Kickstarter projects in 2014 by 3.3m people up from 3m people pledging $480m in 2013. Growth, then, although perhaps not as sharp as some of the hype around crowdfunding might have led you to believe. Music was the most popular category in terms of successfully-funded projects on Kickstarter last year, with 4,009. It was fifth by dollars pledged with $34.1m though, behind film and video ($66.4m), games ($89.1m), design ($96.7m) and technology ($125m). Once again, Kickstarter stressed its community of repeat backers: 773.8k people backed more than one project in 2014, while 71.5k backed more than 10 and 1,125 people more than 100.
