Wondering why there has been no free ‘Single of the Week’ download on Apple’s iTunes store this year? So have other customers, with a discussion thread on the Apple website leading to this claim from one user: “I contacted iTunes Support and they told me the decision was made to drop the free Single of the Week.” While Apple has yet to confirm this publicly, it’s looking like the promotion that launched in August 2004 and has featured early tracks from the likes of Hot Chip, James Blunt, M.I.A., Rihanna and Jason Mraz is now toast. Although with Apple preparing to relaunch the Beats Music streaming service soon, we’re sure there are other plans afoot to get emerging artists in front of the iTunes audience.
