Name-that-tune mobile game SongPop has been downloaded more than 100 million times so far, although we suspect its active users are now well down on its peak a couple of years ago, when it was a Draw Something-sized mobile craze. Still, its developer FreshPlanet is hoping to reignite the fever with a sequel: SongPop 2.
It will be released later this year for iOS and Android devices as well as Facebook. New features include a Party Mode to play solo, as well as plans to release a pack of six “playlists” with 200 songs each every week, which will be free to try before players are asked to pay for permanent access via virtual currency. “I think of SongPop 2 as a love letter to our community,” says CEO Mathieu Nouzareth. FreshPlanet is also working on a spin-off called Rock On – A SongPop Adventure, which will be played alone.
