Twitter may be about to buy a startup that helps its users stream live video from their phones – but it’s not the hotly-tipped Meerkat app that launched this month. TechCrunch claims that Twitter is in “early” talks to acquire one of that company’s rivals, Periscope.

“One source pegs a possible deal at around $100M, another source says the deal is worth a fraction of that,” claims the article. We’ll take a wild guess that the first source is connected with Periscope. For now, Periscope is available in an invite-only beta, which may fit Twitter’s corporate strategy – remember, Vine was originally a startup of the same name, acquired by Twitter before it even launched.
