Apple is holding its ‘Spring Forward’ press event in San Francisco tonight, with its Apple Watch smartwatch expected to dominate the launch. Announced last year, the device is due to go on sale in April, and tonight’s event is expected to have plenty of focus on third-party apps made for it, as a way of winning sceptics over on why they need a smartwatch.
For the best pre-event primer, read 9 to 5 Mac and TechCrunch’s pieces, drawing on lots of sources who’ve been wearing and using the Apple Watch pre-launch. Among the details: 9 to 5 Mac says that the device will be able to store music on 8GB of internal memory, for offline play even when not linked to an iPhone – e.g. jogging – while TechCrunch suggests that the biggest thing about the watch is that it makes wearers take out their iPhones much less. “One user told me that they nearly ‘stopped’ using their phone during the day; they used to have it out and now they don’t, period.”
