More big data here, in the form of a new chart from social analytics firm SocialRank, which has launched its Music Index. The idea: it takes the artists from the Billboard 200 and tracks their followers (and, separately, their Verified followers) and daily engagement on Twitter in the form of retweets, mentions and replies.

It’s the source for some interesting stats, such as the fact that the average artist in the chart has nearly 1.1m followers on Twitter, and that 24.3% of those followers have never tweeted, while 30.2% have “previously tweeted” but not recently. Place your own bets on how much of that 24.3% are spam or defunct accounts versus people who simply read rather than tweet – Twitter is happy to have the latter, but not so keen on the former.
