One of the more interesting offshoots from messaging apps is peer-to-peer payments, and Facebook just dived in to the market. “Today we’re adding a new feature in Messenger that gives people a more convenient and secure way to send or receive money between friends,” announced the social network yesterday.

“This feature will be rolling out over the coming months in the US. It’s easy and free.” To send or receive money through Facebook Messenger, people have to register their debit card details using the app, as well as creating a PIN for security purposes. The new feature will be available on iOS, Android and Facebook’s website. It follows Snapchat’s launch of a ‘Snapcash’ feature with a similar role in November 2014.
