Yep: Taylor Swift. Unsurprisingly, a host of brands and celebrities are taking advantage of the option to register domain names using new “generic top-level domains” – alternatives to .com and the like – to ensure their trademarks are protected.

Which is how Taylor Swift has ended up controlling TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult ahead of the 1 June date when anyone will be able to buy such domains. There’s currently a landgrab for the brands and public figures who get early access to the new top-level domains, to ensure they don’t fall into the wrong hands. It feels slightly like a shakedown though: the knowledge that if these companies and people don’t stump up yet more domain registration fees, someone else will.
