Clearly, the number of unofficial ‘turn multiple photos into collage shots for Instagram’ apps triggered some kind of ‘we should really do this ourselves’ switch within Facebook’s photo-sharing subsidiary. Yesterday, Instagram launched a new standalone app called Layout: a slick way to choose photos then turn them into collages before sharing to Instagram or Facebook.
Note, there’s pointedly no share-to-Twitter option, as Instagram continues its policy of making life awkward for its users who want to share their shots on that social network – see also the way Instagram photos don’t display within tweets. Anyway, Layout is nice, although we can’t help wondering why it’s not part of the main Instagram app. In any case, expect a few more collages to be popping up in Instagram feeds – including from artists.
