We’re certainly keeping our eye on Facebook’s f8 conference this week for announcements around its Facebook Messenger app. PandoDaily has some early info: plans for the messaging app to be turned into a platform for external developers. Specifically 30 launch partners, “many of which are focused on GIFs, emoji, and multi-media creation” with buzzy video startup Meerkat also on the list

And music? Past partnerships would lead us to expect Spotify to be involved, but let’s see what f8 brings on that score. Also, let’s watch what YouTube has planned around livestreaming, for a separate report on Daily Dot suggests the company is rebooting its efforts in that area. YouTube Live, it claims, will relaunch with a focus on gaming and e-sports to take on Amazon-owned Twitch. A team of 50+ engineers has been hired: “The time is right as well, with Twitch moving into other areas such as music and so on. Google doesn’t want to be too far behind in the arms race…”
