SoundCloud has traditionally frowned on apps that simply provide an alternative listening method to its official mobile app. White Label is an example of an app that adds a layer on top, though – specifically, pulling in Twitter conversation around individual tracks that are breaking on SoundCloud. It’s also focused on a single genre: hip-hop.
“Hip-hop fans are the single most active music audience on Twitter. Artists regularly drop new tracks and mixtapes online and then engage in conversation with their fans on Twitter,” founder David Lowry told TheNextWeb this week. “With White Label we aim to capture this behaviour in a mobile app by being the easiest way to find the hottest new tracks right along side the most important tweets about them.” A simple but clever idea, and one that could work for other genres too.
