Overnight, pioneering hip-hop group De La Soul have raised more than $133k on Kickstarter to record a new studio album, passing their modest $110k goal in less than a day of their crowdfunding campaign. “This will be our first De La Soul studio album in eleven years. We’re excited and ready to create,” the band explained in their pitch.

Backers are able to stump up for download, CD and vinyl copies of the new album – due for release in September – but also USB drives, t-shirt packs, handwritten lyric sheets, Skype chats with Posdnous, Dave, and Maseo, and (for $65, which sounds like a bargain) the promise that De La Soul will follow them on Twitter: “We’ll not only follow you, we will periodically RT your funny, interesting, motivational, silly and informative tweets for 2015…” De La Soul previously launched a new mixtape on BitTorrent last year (Bulletin, 27-Mar-14) shortly after giving away their entire back catalogue for 25 hours as downloads (Bulletin, 14-Feb-14).
