Having spent the last couple of weeks being criticised for its emphasis on big stars, Tidal has been promoting its Tidal Rising feature. “Every week we will highlight emerging artists from around the world,” the company tweeted yesterday. Having checked, we can say it’s essentially a page spotlighting albums, plus a playlist of new tracks.

Also interesting: Tidal’s partnership with Soundiiz, a website that helps music listeners convert playlists from one streaming service (i.e. Spotify) to another (i.e. Tidal). As The Verge notes, the site is a tad rough and ready at the moment: it looks more like a work-in-progress affair. Still, it’s a sign that Tidal is thinking about one of the key challenges in poaching subscribers from its most established rival: playlist portability. Although arguably listening-history portability is the bigger nut to crack in the longer term. We’re getting a better sense of how Tidal plans to support emerging artists too
