
Music remains a key plank in Yahoo’s online video expansion plans, with the company renewing its partnership with Live Nation to broadcast video streams of concerts, and also picking up Simon Cowell’s Ultimate DJ talent show. The Live Nation deal was announced in July 2014 as a year-long series of 365 concerts, and that will renew with five Live Nation festivals added into the mix.
According to Billboard, 43% of people who watch the shows are new to Yahoo, and they’re averaging 24 minutes watching. Meanwhile, Yahoo will be the home for Ultimate DJ, developed by Cowell’s Syco Entertainment as a way for DJs to compete with one another, with fans voting on Tumblr. “Very much like the World Cup of EDM – country against country, DJ against DJ, fanbase against fanbase,” as Yahoo’s Kathy Savitt put it. As we reported yesterday, former sponsor T-Mobile US pulled out of the show recently.
