Slowly but surely, Tidal’s train of exclusives for its subscribers is getting rolling. Co-owner Jay Z announced plans for a New York ‘B-Sides’ concert on 13 May yesterday, which will see him playing “selections that have never been or not performed live in a decade”. The gig will be streamed live on Tidal, whose subscribers are also being encouraged to apply to get tickets to attend in person.
It’s an interesting contest too: they have to create a playlist of their favourite music and tweet it with the #TIDALXJAYZ hashtag, with Tidal then picking out winners based on “diversity of artists used in playlist, incorporation of different genres in the playlist, official sequence of the playlist”. Which in itself is a crafty way to solicit some interesting playlists to promote on Tidal itself, while the company builds its US editorial team.
