Music apps for artists were strongly hyped but many in the industry have cooled on them. Virtual reality is increasingly hyped, but with a side-order of scepticism. So here’s a bold move from Warp Records: a virtual reality app for artist Squarepusher’s new single ‘Stor Eiglass’.
Released for iOS and Android, it’s designed to be watched on a Google Cardboard VR headset – a cardboard housing that uses a smartphone as its viewer. “Bleeding-edge artists Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF), Blue Zoo and Rob Pybus have come together to create a virtual reality (VR) promo that can be experienced via a VR headsets, mobiles, tablets and Youtube’s new 360º platform,” explains its app store listing. The app is free, and can be used without a Cardboard headset if you’re curious by holding your device up in front of your eyes.
