Stand by for a quote to tie your brain in knots trying to parse it. “It’s all about migrating a company from a world of being tech-centric, follow-based, reverse-chronologic-centric to a mix of that and curated, media-centric relevance-based content.” That’s Twitter CEO Dick Costolo outlining his vision for the social service’s future at the Code conference yesterday. Translation: more emphasis on making Twitter less intimidating for mainstream users by helping them find interesting tweets – and videos – and people to follow, with a bit more filtering in their timelines. Costolo also denied speculation that he’s on the way out as Twitter tries to kickstart its growth: “The board and I are totally in sync,” he said, giving himself the traditional football manager’s vote of confidence. On-stage with Costolo at Code was Periscope CEO Kayvon Beykpour, claiming that more than 10 years of content are being watched every day on the live-streaming app. Costolo also defended Periscope from accusations of piracy, suggesting that it will “surround and amplify” live events, rather than cannibalise (for boxing matches, for example) paid viewing.
