Recently, we suggested Sonos as one of 10 companies that Apple could potentially buy to further its digital music ambitions. Now, it’s emerged that the company has already nixed plans by its Beats subsidiary to launch a Sonos-style connected hi-fi. At least, that’s what Variety reported, claiming that the new device was planned to launch before Christmas 2014 as an extension of Beats’ business selling Bluetooth speakers. “Like Sonos, Beats wanted to give consumers the option to place speakers in multiple rooms of their house, and then have them all play the same music synchronously,” claims the report, before suggesting that the device would have cost “as much as $750”. Likely not a Sonos-killer, then.
