We reported on Snapchat boss Evan Spiegel’s appearance at the Cannes Lions conference yesterday, but it turns out there was another announcement from his company and some new partners. Snapchat has teamed up with advertising giant WPP and the Daily Mail to launch a creative agency called Truffle Pig. It’ll be focused on the US initially, with a 12-person team testing content and marketing on Snapchat and the Daily Mail’s digital properties. Marvellously literal sentence of the day, from AdAge’s report: “The name of the agency is a reference to a type of pig used to locate truffles, said Jon Steinberg, CEO of Daily Mail North America.” No shit, Sherlock. We wonder what Spotify will make of the news, given that it has an internal tool called Truffle Pig – reported on in the media in October 2014 and described at the time as “ProTools for playlists”. Without a trademark, if the feature ever graduates from internal status, it’ll need a new name now.
