Quick! Go and discover some new music! It’s the first New Music Friday today (although the slightly-awkward plural branding means we should say it’s ‘the first of the New Music Fridays’ really). More than 45 countries are adopting Friday as the standard release day for new music, although 11 of them already used that day.

Those that haven’t are making the necessary tweaks to the system around their charts – for example, chart shows moving to Friday in the UK and France. The likes of Years & Years, Owl City and Little Boots are hoping to make a splash with their new albums across the world, with IFPI boss Frances Moore hoping that the change is “an opportunity to recreate excitement around the release of music”.
