7digital has signified its latest arena for global expansion: Africa. The company has signed a deal with African collecting society CAPASSO that covers 40 countries on the continent, including licences for downloads and streaming. 7digital is already active in the region, powering South African music downloads service MiTracks. Now it wants to expand.

“It’s a full repertoire blanket licence for forty countries, with a single point for reporting and invoicing – which ensures a simple procedure for managing rights,” said 7digital CEO Simon Cole. “There is a huge opportunity for user engagement with music on connected devices in the African region,” said CARPASSO boss Nothando Migogo. “7digital entering the market will allow better opportunities for local and international brands to bring music to users efficiently and legally.” 7digital joins Africa-focused service Spinlet, UMG’s The Kleek, Deezer and other digital music brands active in the region.
