Ticketing firm Eventbrite is making its play for the wrist, releasing apps for the Apple Watch, Android Wear and Pebble Time smartwatches. The main use for the apps will be for displaying QR codes from digital tickets to be scanned on the door of venues, with the Apple Watch app also able to be used by event organisers to check ticket sales and door check-ins.
However, Eventbrite is also exploring the idea of buying tickets from a smartwatch. “Ticketing on smartwatches is the next evolution in our ongoing efforts to remove friction,” said its UK head of marketing Marino Fresch. “We are giving people access into events quickly and efficiently, without them even having to reach into their pockets. Having said that, it’s really just the beginning of what we’ll be able to do in the future.”
