Have you heard of Lohanthony? 16 year-old Anthony Quintal is a popular YouTuber, with more than 7.3m fans on Google’s video service. And he also likes music, making him a good fit for Heard Well – the compilations label recently launched by fellow YouTube star Connor Franta. Lohanthony has picked 12 of his favourite new tracks for an album called ‘Landscapes’, released through the iTunes and Google Play stores, with a streaming release to come later this week.
Alpine, Little Boots, Kindness and (Music Ally favourite) Aurora are all featured. “Music is a huge part of my life, and I really wanted to showcase artists that ooze fabulousness on my first album,” said Quintal. The release strategy is interesting for those of us wondering how a compilations label will fare in the streaming world – On sale a week before it’s available to stream, that provides a window for Lohanthony and Franta to promote the paid download to their online followings. Although with fans able to easily turn the tracklisting into their own playlist on YouTube, Spotify etc, there’s still a question of how successful this will be.
