Indian streaming service Saavn now has 18 million monthly active users, according to new figures published by the company. It also claims that it is averaging 250m song streams a month (so around 14 per user); and that its number of daily active users in India has increased tenfold since 2014, fuelling its growth.
The stats were issued as Saavn secured new investment from former Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin, who the company says will help it grow its mobile-focused business further through telco partnerships. “With over 90% of our usage driven by smartphones, Saavn users are moving data plan transactions and driving data engagement at an incredible pace,” said CEO Rishi Malhotra. “In the coming months, you’ll see us work more deeply with carriers in India and additional territories.”
Saavn will face plenty of competition for those telco deals – outside India at least – but the company is certainly well-resourced, having raised a $100m Series C funding round earlier this year.
