One Direction, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber were among the 10 top YouTube channels in August by new subscriber additions. 1D added 510k new subscribers, taking their total to just over 17m on the video service. Swift added 508k to reach 16.2m total subscribers, while Bieber added just under 508k to reach 13.1m overall.
The stars were the fifth, sixth and seventh top YouTube channels by subscriber additions in August, in a chart headed by beauty vlogger Rachel Levin and gamer Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg. As we’ve reported before, signing up subscribers has become an increasingly important task on YouTube to build repeat viewership – and for a long time, it was the gamers and vloggers who were best at it.
That’s been changing – albeit for the biggest pop stars. That said, we always look for Skrillex’s stats too: through steady, organic growth, he’s built a base of 11.2m subscribers on YouTube, adding 224k of them last month.
