Spotify’s high-profile dispute with Taylor Swift had a silver lining in terms of raising awareness of the streaming service in the US, according to CEO Daniel Ek. “The middle of America found out what Spotify was, so we had a big success. I wish we could have gotten that attention in a better way than pissing off Taylor Swift,” Ek told the IAB Mixx advertising industry conference yesterday, according to CNET. Although that’s likely true, the comments may not help to repair Spotify and Swift’s relationship. Even so, Ek maintains that the two sides share more views than might be apparent. “We agree music should not be free…it should have a lot more value in society than it currently does.”
