Streaming service Deezer’s latest new feature isn’t anything to do with music – bar the odd themed playlist.

Deezer Football cements the company’s move into radio-style content, with live commentary on Premier League and Bundesliga matches in the UK and Germany, as well as UK football podcasts; statistics and fixtures; and a team of editors providing suitably sick-as-a-parrot features.

The live commentary comes from partnerships with radio stations talkSport and Sport1.fm.

“As the audio streaming landscape evolves it is important for us to work with the platforms that are leading this change,” said the boss of talkSport’s parent company UTV Media.

“Football is a major passion for many of our listeners, and we wanted to find a way to bring them closer to what they love,” added Deezer’s chief content and product officer.

It’s an inventive move for Deezer, and another step – see also podcasts and shortform video on Spotify – towards these services becoming more general entertainment hubs.
