Annotations site Genius has a new investor: Eminem. The rapper has invested an undisclosed amount in the company, while striking a partnership to use its service for lyrics on his own website. Eminem will also be annotating his own songs on Genius to give fans an insight into the lyrics.

“Coming up we would always obsess over the lyrics from our favorite MCs. Picking everything apart, trying to get into their heads,” he said in a statement. “I still do that today and Genius helps to make it a worldwide conversation. Pretty amazing to me.”

It’s the latest such partnership for Genius, which was once criticised for its lack of licensing deals for the lyrics that its users were crowd-annotating – but which has since struck a number of deals with publishers, and worked with artists from various genres.
