YouTube has appointed Neal Mohan as its head of product development, which is a new role at the online video service.
Mohan is moving across from Google, where he was senior VP of video and display advertising.
While YouTube has had people in charge of product before, Mohan’s role is new – according to AdAge – in the way that he will combine oversight of YouTube’s consumer-facing features with its advertising products.
“Like Facebook’s move in 2012 to make mobile a primary consideration early into any product’s development, YouTube appears to be making a similar move by putting in charge of consumer products an exec with a history of working on profit-building products who can ensure that revenue isn’t an afterthought in the development process,” as the report put it.
