Distributor Believe Digital is expanding into China via a partnership with Tencent.
It’s an exclusive deal: the latter company will distribute Believe’s catalogue on its QQ Music service, while also sub-licensing it to other digital music services in China, and handling anti-piracy activities there.
“It’s important for us to be proactive in building a real economic ecosystem for digital music in China, and to work hand-in-hand with Tencent to contribute to a fairer digital music landscape for independent music,” said Believe boss Denis Ladegaillerie.
The news caps a big year for Believe Digital, which announced a $60m funding round in June shortly after acquiring rival TuneCore.
