Streaming doubled in the US in 2015 says Nielsen

It’s a big week for 2015 figures in the music industry, with Nielsen releasing its latest stats for the US recorded-music market.

The big headline is the doubling of streaming: 317.2bn songs streamed in 2015 compared to 164.5bn in 2014.

When converted to the in-favour stream-equivalent albums metric, that means a rise from 109.7m ‘albums’ in 2014 to 211.5m in 2015 – and a 15.2% rise in overall “album consumption units” from 476.9m in 2014 to 549.4m in 2015.
