Research firm Strategy Analytics has published its latest estimates for the smartphone market, claiming that shipments grew 12% year-on-year to 1.4bn units in 2015.

As ever, note that’s shipments to retail, which may not be the same as actual sales to people. Even so, it’s a gauge of how the market is growing.

Strategy Analytics warned that while yearly growth was 12%, when it compared the final quarters of 2014 and 2015, the growth was just 6% – “the smartphone industry’s slowest growth rate of all time”.

Apple’s financial results earlier this week hinted at that, as iPhone sales flattened out. Strategy Analytics has numbers for the various manufacturers, claiming that Samsung shipped the most smartphones in 2015: 319.7m, ahead of Apple’s 231.5m and Huawei’s 107.1m.
