The latest artist sharing details of how much money they make from streaming is French band Giant Jack.
They’ve allowed Digital Music News to publish their earnings from platforms including Spotify, Deezer, YouTube and Qobuz.
This is for an independent band using distributor Wiseband. When the figures are broken down into per-stream stats, Qobuz comes top with €0.028 per stream from 421 streams; then Deezer with €0.0028 per stream from 738 streams; then Spotify with €0.0014 per stream from 1,847 streams; then YouTube with €0.00023 per stream from 4,365 video plays.
The caution for artists who see the per-stream payment as a key metric to judge services is the respective scale of these services. Deezer may have paid Giant Jack 100% more per stream, but Spotify generated 150% more streams, and thus a larger overall payout.
